DEBUT ALBUM “TAKE A LITTLE RIDE WITH ME” FROM CHILDREN’S PERFORMER JAKE NOW AVAILABLE

MUSIC BY JAKE is proud to announce the release of Toronto-based children’s performer Jake’s debut album TAKE A LITTLE RIDE WITH ME. Comprised of 16 songs (13 originals, and 3 new arrangements of traditional songs) the album offers child-oriented lyrics and sentiments, with musical arrangements and instrumentation that will satisfy children and grown-ups alike.

Jack Grunsky, Juno Award-winning children’s performer, comments about TAKE A LITTLE RIDE WITH ME: “There's a real child-friendly feeling that comes across with lots of heart and good humour…The arrangements are great, and really complement (Jake’s) charming singing style.”

TAKE A LITTLE RIDE WITH ME takes the listener on an unexpected romp through many different musical styles. “Hey Lotty” lays down an authentic-sounding reggae groove, “Mississippi Tickle-Buggy Ride” is flavoured with zydeco enthusiasm, “I-Thought-I-Saw-Zoo” swings to a rock/r ‘n’b rhythm, and “Barn Hoe-Down” and “Mr Farmer’s Truck” employ guitar, fiddle and banjo in inimitable country style.

“I believe that children are complex musical beings,” says Jake. “They love good music, just as grown-ups do. However, it seems that while multi-textured music can be easily digested and enjoyed by children, it often brings with it lyrical content that might not be appropriate. It is my hope that with this project, I can expose children to several different and complex styles of music, with lyrics that young ears will find amusing, embraceable, thought-provoking, but never condescending. This album was made for young human beings.”

Wherever possible in the recording process, Jake tried for a “live off the floor” feeling, using real drums and percussion. Throughout the liner notes he directs the children’s attention to the instruments, and the players, helping to re-inforce the connection between the music and the real people who make it.

TAKE A LITTLE RIDE WITH ME was recorded and mixed almost entirely at Pro-Trax Studios in Thunder Bay, ON, using many Thunder Bay musicians. Jake himself plays acoustic guitar throughout the CD.

The cover illustration for TAKE A LITTLE RIDE WITH ME is an original oil painting by David Peacock. In addition to teaching positions at the Ontario College of Art and Sheridan College, David Peacock has written and illustrated numerous books.
